Homework

At The Fountain School, homework is an important part of every student’s education. It is set and marked regularly to reinforce classroom learning, develop independent study habits and help every student work towards achieving their full potential.

Homework gives students the opportunity to consolidate what they have learned in school, identify areas where they may need further support and develop the organisation, responsibility and independence required for future study. As students progress through the school, regular and purposeful homework is particularly important in preparing them for the demands of their GCSEs.

Homework Diaries

​

All students are issued with a homework diary to help them develop a consistent routine of recording, organising and completing their work. The diary also provides an important means of communication between school and home, allowing parents and teachers to support students in managing their responsibilities.

Homework diaries are monitored by subject teachers and are also checked regularly by the Headteacher to ensure that homework is being recorded and completed appropriately.

Absence and Missed Homework

Being absent from school does not remove a student’s responsibility to complete work that has been set. Students who are absent should check with their classmates or speak to the relevant subject teacher on their return to ensure that they are aware of any missed homework and complete it promptly. This helps students remain up to date with their learning and prevents unnecessary gaps in their progress.

Online Homework

The school also uses Sparx Maths⁠ to support mathematics learning outside the classroom. Students can access their individual accounts from home and complete homework set by their teachers.

We encourage parents to take an active interest in their child’s homework by checking their homework diary regularly, providing an appropriate environment for study and encouraging work to be completed carefully and on time.
